| In September 2005, the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) released Dietary Guidelines for Americans. In addition, a new food pyramid known as MyPyramid was unveiled. This pyramid was revolutionary as it was the first time the USDA afforded an individual the opportunity to enter personal information such as age, activity level and gender to receive a customized food plan. Using the new food pyramid is easy. This website is loaded with great ideas. In brief, each of the colors under the individual climbing the stairs represent food groups. Orange represents grains, cereal, etc. the color green represents vegetables, red represents fruits, yellow represents oil, light blue is color associated with milk and dairy products and the dark blue represents protein such as lean meats and beans. Check out the USDA website by clicking on the link under the pyramid. |
